Run Without Burden Looking Unto Jesus (Heb 12:1-11)

Lay Aside Sin and since we have such a great |
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, (Heb 12:1)
cause to effect in v1 = prev seg main thought,= (by) faith has substance, is evidence of the supernatural.
12:1: us, us, we…if you want ot lay down your sin, do it in community.
witnesses – theose who’ve witnessed God.
run – if you’re in snares, you can’t fun.
LAY ASIDE SIN.
weight – its not our job to carry a heavy burden.
endurance – patience, sticking w/ it for the long distance. requires training, requires discipline, you, disciples.
If you look onto Jesus, rather than the other runners…fix your eyes on the prize.
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Heb 12:2)
v. 2 the joy – people coming to know Jesus/salvation.
despising – thinking very little on the suffering and shame.
For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. (Heb 12:3)
v 3 consider – ponder, contemplate, be considerate
You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. (Heb 12:4)
And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; (Heb 12:5)
v. 5 despise – antonym = esteem.
For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.” [56] (Heb 12:6)
v. 6 chasens and scourges = evidence you are God’s son or daughter.
If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? (Heb 12:7)
But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. (Heb 12:8)
Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? (Heb 12:9)
v. 9 subjection = be a subject, submint.
For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. (Heb 12:10)
v. 10 best to them vs. for our profit
Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. (Heb 12:11)
pray for a soft heart so that God does not have to discipline you hard 12:11
God is trying to correct you and put you back on the right path. The punishment is to show the off the path way will hurt more.
Do we accept punishment with thankfulness?
