Salvation Gospel in a Nutshell

  1. Our sin nature (we are separated from God b/c of our sin)
    1. We were created for good but became sinful
      1. Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of god
    2. We are not “Good”, only God is good
      1. Mark 10:17-18 “No one is good except God alone”
      2. James 2:10 (Break one part of the law, broken it all)
    3. We deserve death
      1. Rom 6:23 “Wages of sin = death, but gift of god = eternal life”
      2. 1 Cor 6:9 (habitual sinners will not inherit the kingdom of God)
    4. We are spiritually helpless
      1. Jer 17:9 “the heart is deceitful”
      2. John 3:3 “no one can see the kingdom of God unless one is born again”
    5. Works, religion, philosophy, morality, etc. cannot get you to heaven
      1. Prov 14:12 “there is a way that seems right to a man but it leads to death”
      2. Is. 59:2 “your iniquities have separated you from God..
  2. Good news: God’s Forgiveness
    1. Christ is God who became a man
      1. John 1:1, 1:14 (Word was God, Word became flesh)
    2. Christ died as our substitute
      1. 1Pet3:8 “Christ died for our sins to bring you to God”
      2. Is 53:5 “He was pierced for our transgressions, by his wounds we = healed”
    3. Christ offers his forgiveness as a gift
      1. Eph 2:8-9 “saved by grace, not works, so that no one can boast”
      2. Rom 5:8 “Christ demonstrates his love by: while we were still sinners, christ died for us”
    4. We have to respond
      1. 1John1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness”
      2. Rom 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”
      3. Rom 10:13 “whoever calls on the Lord will be saved”
      4. Rev. 3:20 “If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him”
      5. John 1:12 “to all that received him, believed his name, he gave the right to become children of God”
    5. Salvation prayer
      1. Pray with them (Have them repeat after you)
        1. Admit need for savior (I am a sinner)
        2. Turn from sin (repent, ask forgiveness)
        3. Believe Jesusdied on the cross for you and rose from the grave.
        4. Invite Jesus to come in and take control of your life.
      2. Pray for them
        1. to grasp the decision they have made
        2. to grow in their relationship w/ Jesus
      3. Show them scripture in bible that they are saved and have eternal life
      4. Example sinner’s prayer:
        1. Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins. I invite you to come into my heart and my life. I want to trust and follow you as Lord and savior. In Jesus name. Amen
  3. Result: Become Children of God
    1. Trusting in God as Lord & Savior
      1. Savior – Christ takes away the death sentence and gives us eternal life w/ him
      2. Lord – Christ has control of our life, gives us strength and guidance into obedience.
    2. Transformation by the holy spirit
      1. 2 Cor 5:17 “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has perished, the new has come”
      2. 1 Cor 6:19-20 “Your body = temple of Holy Spirit who is in you...you were bought at a price
