Drama about JesusOctober 2006

A one day mission trip? It may seem silly to even mention a one day trip, but for a lot of the people we (Darren and I as leaders of the Missions Ministry at the Rock) took with us, it was a “get your feet wet” opportunity to see whether international missions might be a calling for them. Many of our attendees had never been on a mission trip before, and got an awesome taste of what a mission trip is like, alebeit on a smaller scale, without the financial or time commitment a normal mission trip would have. We are so lucky in San Diego to have Mexico right in our backyard that we can do small scale trips like this!

Here is an article I wrote to the Missions Ministry Mailing List about this event afterwards summarizing what we did:

We’d like to thank everyone who was able to come with us or participate through prayer! Everyone had a great time and the outreach was amazing. We saw many hearts moved.

House-buildingWe went down to TJ with the Rock’s housebuilding ministry. One of the reasons we chose to go alongside the housebuilding ministry is that Mexican Caravan Ministries, the group in Mexico that they work with, is not just about building houses, but really has a heart for missions, which was clearly evident during their morning devotion for us, when they shared some verses about going forth throughout all the nations.

Making Bead BraceletsSome of our team helped the house-building construction in the morning, others of us went out into the neighborhood and shared the gospel through making bead bracelets with the kids and witnessing to and praying for adults in the neighborhood.

After lunch we went door to door and invited people to come to our outreach. About 40 people watched us play music, act out a drama about Jesus, and preach the Gospel.  At least ten people raised their hands during an altar call at the end of the event, and many more were also encouraged and given Gospels of John in Spanish.  We made so many friends with the little kids in the neighborhood and some of them just clung to us all day long as we just loved on them…Praise God!  One of the families that came to the outreach were Christians and were holding church services in their house.  We encouraged them and prayed for them that God would use them in the neighborhood to share Christ with the neighbors.
