Google is discontinuing self-hosted/FTP publishing for Blogger blogs...meaning this update log (and its rss feed) is no longer going to continue to update automatically until I move the blog to a different blogging platform. Likely this means the URL for the RSS feed will change.

I've done a number of un-announced "sneaker" updates over the past couple months. The recipes page has additional new recipes and pictures. The faith section has a new study on revelation and a study on heberews. I added a whole new domain name to spotlight my professional work. But today's annoucement is really about the About Me section, where I added two new pages, one about Sports and one about Extracurriculars.

I updated the front-page of the site. I took down most of the syndicated content from the homepage because it was making the homepage too slow to load. But be not afraid, the content isn't gone, its just moved to another page.

There's a new contact me page which has a hopefully spam-proofed javascript mailto link rather than the old hard to read image of my email address.

There's a new about this site page with a brief summary of the history of the site, linked from the homepage.

The RSS feed for the update log is now linked from the homepage and should be easier to find.

I restored three or four of the zips for the old Sunbear Software executables from a backup disk, and re-uploaded them including source code.

I did a bit of reorganization of the index pages and nav-bar items. Most of the nav-bar items have been rearranged and renamed, the navbar now has a homepage link. Photos and Travel are now a sub-item under about me. Sevaral links to deprecated and obsolete content have been removed. These organizational changes are really just the first stage of an in-place redesign to improve the site's navigability for first time visitors. In particlar goals include making the massive amounts of material on this site less overwhelming and highlighting the pages that are particularly interesting/well developed, to improve user-experience.

Bible Study Section Update

This weekend I did a lot of updating to the Bible Study section. In particular, I started formatting my Hebrews study for the internet, and the book introduction and segment 1 are done and look really awesome. The other segments look like a work in progress, so I slapped big construction stickers all over them to make it clear those parts aren't really "done" yet, and aren't finished quality.

I also posted a bunch of other miscellaneous bible study materials I already had on my computer. Some of them I just converted to PDF to post as an attachment, others I converted to html and posted.

I also started a section for my tabernacle study. What is up is just a small portion of the full study. I have a combination of source materials to work with--I have a huge word file that is a word version of the study. Then I set that aside and started making a powerpoint about the tabernacle... so deal is I have a huge amount of material to work with, but its not very well organized and needs some sorting and addition of transitions and editing it down to a reasonable quantity of material, in a format that's easy to digest.

Stealth Update

I've been sneaking in more stealth updates througout the week, mostly in the travel and faith sections. Many of the changes are not outwardly apparent yet, but I'm working on overhauling the travel section as I am going to promote it to a top level page in place of the Africa link (which will become a sub-page). But it needs a bit of work first, both in terms of content that's not there yet, and in terms of making an index page for it that is navigatable, clear, and draws you in with interest to keep poking around in that section.

The faith section was previously a bit scant...a lot of great ideas, but what is up is not in my opinion my best material I have to work with. Currently, I'm not developing new material for the website, I'm working on cleaning up stuff I've already written but have never published online before, and turning them into web-formatted content. I love charts and tables and am trying to get more of them up. This material mostly comes from bible study notes and in-depth studies I've done. The goal of this section's update is to overhaul the content such that someone coming here could totally be edified spiritually and grow in the knowledge and understanding of the bible and applying it to their life. Take out the mediocrity of this section that looks like a poorly planned afterthought and organize the content and navigation into something that is inviting and draws in the audience to keep digging in!

New 404 error page, its the talking tree (UCSD joke)!
The main recipes page has had a major facelift with stylesheet code and icons for the categories.
Recipes section has a new global favicon.
The main site also has a different new favicon, but it may not appear everywhere yet as a lot of the pages were hardcoded to the previous favicon and I haven't synced the site to fix that.
Fixed some broken links (greenchicken.html for example).
And probably other stuff I've already forgotten about.

Recipes update! After making pot roast for dinner last night based on mom's directions, I typed up the "Winblad Version" of the recipe. And while I was at it, I added recipes for things liked in Uganda: Danish Pancakes, Chipate, and Rolexes. A large part of those recipes was from memory, having helped cook or watch these things be made with a little supplementation from cookbooks for things like what is the floury mixture's proportions should be. Note that on the Ugandan recipes I haven't actually tried making them personally yet, but I wanted to record my rough draft of what I'm going to try, before I forget how they're made. Hopefully I'll add pictures and make adjustments to the recipe if all goes well in making them.

This is an exciting update! I added a new bible study helps section under the faith section. I even copied several articles that I'd written previously to this section and linkified them (there's some more that are in work as well) so you can have your own bible study efforts blessed by adding the thoughts of others.

And while I was at it I updated the Missions section (under faith as well) and put up stories about Australia and Costa Rica, complete with pictures. Check them out! Glory to God for what He's doing around the world.

Yesterday's improvements include a new photo tour of costal central california (see photos index) from a trip a couple years ago, updating the photos index to actually have some pictures and direct gallery links, and adding images to various index pages for visual appeal. And also continued work on the new /travel/ section.

Todays's additions include a skeleton of new pages for the mission trips section, the Mexico one of which is the most complete. Als a new mostly finished Culinary Travel page is up, but unlinked. I'm testing out some templating features on that page, which part of is working great, but still is having issues to resolve as well.

Making good progress on site cleaning and focusing. Today's most important addition is a new top-level category for faith, so now there's a one-stop shopping place to find all the stuff that's distinctly about Christinity.

Included in all that was updating some previously unlinked/hard to find articles about Christianity. Major reorganization of About Me, Entertainment, Art, and Computers indexes. Added some new content such as replacing jokes with more appropriate ones, and Understanding Christianity through Engineering (in draft/beta)

Fixed a lot of broken links. Fixed some redirects as well.

Current project is updating the "About Me" section to be a little less...obsolete. Christmas Letter 2005 added. San Diego Wildfires 2003 (beta version) now accessible after (extensive) proof-reading, correcting spellings and capitalizations and adding pictures.

It is my prayer that people would see Christ in me through the content on my website. I pray my personal character reflects that of the character of God. If you should see anything up here that does not reflect the character of a godly woman, I would appreciate the gentle chastening of having it pointed out to me--its hard to get rid of sin from your life that you don't even realize you have!

I do fret from time to time that a lot of the content on my website was written long before I got saved, and reflects, perhaps, the character of who I was at that point in my life rather than the present time. I am slowly going through and re-evaluating the plethora of content that has been long-standing here and bringing it up to a higher standard for quality and content.

The about-me section, being the most personal, but perhaps, least frequently updated, is long overdo for an over-haul. When my vision of what it will look like when this round of revision is truly complete is something that shares both the experiences that have made me who I am today, for better and worse, as well as how having Jesus Christ in my life has had a tremendous impact in changing my life for the better! Until you can see the Jesus in me, I haven't accomplished my goal.

UpdateLog urls are now fixed.

Due to uncircumventable limitations by my hosting company /icons/* (aka /iconsj/* has been permaently relocated to /comp/icons/* . this should resolve previous problems with being unable to access the icons page.

For some reason the archives page on the updates blog seems to be missing links to anything remotely recent. Will have to investigate and fix later. In the meantime, if you type in the month url in the same format as the other pages, if there were updates then, its there. --Jessica

The crafts section has been totally revamped. Content that had gotten lost in the hosting shuffles has been resurrected, and additionally, much new content was added including pictures of ornaments I've made. As a random factiod, the background on that section is one I made myself too. This section has some real solid content now! Including some hand-drawn artwork of mine of some of the stitches (hopefully I'll replace all the scanned and computer-colorized stitch guides as well with ones in matching style) And I even fixed the navigation links so there might be some chance you could "get back" to the homepage or indexes if you had come across the page via an external link.

Oh, and I linked a random orphaned page in the computers section.
